I have a 24" Craftsman Snow Thrower (model 247.889571):
How do I know what level to put the skids? manual just says "adjust" as needed.What are guidelines?

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. The shoes should be adjusted to the type of driveway you have. If you have a concrete or blacktop driveway, the shoes should be set lower. When I adjusted shoes, I would place cardboard under the shave plate. Then adjust the shoes down to the driveway. This will leave the shave plate about a 1/4 inch above the drive. I like this setting because the shave plate will not be caught in an uneven part of the walkway or driveway.

If you have a gravel drive, you will want to set the shoes so the shave plate is higher. This will reduce the likely hood of throwing gravel. For gavel drives, I use a 1-inch block under the shave plate. Then adjust the shoes down.
