Wood stove 1438406 how does the thermostat work and is there a danger in running it without it?

We have a sears wood stove it has a manuel and/or auto thermostat setting.we are using only manuel are we safe?

Thank you for your question on the wood stove thermostat.

Most of the wood stove thermostats only control the draft damper to open and close the damper automatically.

You can operate the wood stove without the thermostat but you will have to control the air draft damper manually.

There should not be a problem with using it manually.

As with any wood stove do not over fire the stove, and shut the damper off when you go to bed to hold the fire for as long a possible.

Make sure you have a clean chimney with little to no creosote build up and your local fire department can do an inspection of the wood stove to make sure it is safe to use.
