transaxle compatibility

i have a craftsman rider model number 917255980, I've got a cracked transaxle case, the transaxle type is peerless 137973, i found another one the looks to be exactly the same in the pictures, its model number is peerless 174741/184956, will this work, any input would be greatly appreciated

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I have looked up the numbers you have submitted. I tried to find the specifications on the transaxles but did not have any luck. Without out the specs I can only give you my opinion. I looked at the parts and from what I can tell, the two are the same. If you are purchasing this from a private party, I recommend taking your old transaxle with you. Then you will be able to compare the two side by side. If you ca buying it on line, I recommend asking them for the mounting measurement and axle information. Then you can see if yours is the same.

When it comes to locating the proper part for an appliance can be challenging. While you are waiting for a detailed reply from an expert I recommend visiting the Sears parts direct website were you can view a full parts list and diagram of your model as well you may find a direct number to speak with a parts associate in regards to getting the proper part.
