Craftsman Lawn Tractor 247.28881 runs rough. Did basic troubleshooting.

Mower was running fine then started losing power like not getting gas then it died. It would turn over but not start. I drained the gas, changed the oil, and replaced oil and fuel filters. It started but runs very rough. A lot of "popping" sounds when I first started it.. It is difficult to turn over to start but once it starts it runs very rough and noisy. Drove it a little ways but running very rough and noisy. Mower is only 13 months old. Please advise what I can do to fix this. Thanks!

Your mower is fairly new for this type of problem The expert will review this specific model and respond. I did locate two similar type of problems if you wish to check. I attached both below. I hope these provide some ideas.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. Based on the symptoms I suspect the valves are out of adjustment. When the valves are out of adjustment, the engine will be hard to start because the compression release does not work. It will also run rough because the valves are not opening properly. If the tractor is only 13 months old, I recommend having a service tech come out and service it under warranty. The tractor has a two-year warranty. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:
