Craftsman professional series lawn tractor model 917.288700 will not go in reverse and regardless of where the throttle control is the mower moves forward.

Craftsman professional series lawn tractor model 917.288700 is 3 years old. Used yesterday and towards the end of my cut it seemed like it was losing power while in reverse. I used a air compressor to blow it off like normal and backed it into its parking place. Started it up today and it would not go in reverse at all. After turning it off and looking it over started it back up and the mower just moves forward even while throttle is in reverse or neutral.

If you press the pedal to move backwards and the tractor instead moves forward then it's most likely going to be a serious problem inside the transmission. This is not really something that you'll be able to take care of as the transmission is pretty complex inside. Do make sure to manually check that this is indeed what's happening. Look for the linkage that connects at the pedal and take it loose. Move the linkage in the reverse direction and see if the mower still moved forward. If it does then it's going to be internal transmission problems causing this.

I can understand your frustration over your tractor not moving in reverse. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.
