I understand how irritating it can become when you experience an issue with your refrigerator. The error code ER IF stands for the failure of the icing fan. This is the fan that makes the temperature cold in the icemaker section. You should have decreased ice production with this error. The code normally gets generated when the control board does not "SEE" the fan turning; there is a feedback circuit that checks the voltage when the fan is turning. If you want to check the fan motor yourself, it can be accomplished at the main control board. You will need a multimeter and micro leads. The checks would be made by pressing the test button one time and taking the volts DC measurements. The images below should offer further details. However, I do not recommend trying this unless you feel comfortable.
