kenmore 253.5694360 -- fridge temperature fluctuations

I noticed recently that is seems the fridge temperature is fluctuating. I purchased a thermometer and tested the freezer and it is constant usually at 0 or a little below. If I put the thermometer up near the vent where the air flows from the freezer it's at 20 or below. Sometimes the temperature in the fridge is between 30 and if I open the door for about 20-30 seconds the temperature rises quickly to sometimes 60. It takes a while for the temperature to drop back down.

I lowered the temperature of the fridge and it is cooling better but I'm wondering if that is not efficient. How can I test to be sure my fridge is operating properly?

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator model 253.5694360, I will be glad to assist you.

The air temperatures will fluctuate when doors are opened, when the unit cycles and when the unit is in a defrost mode. Opening doors allows warm air to enter and it can take up to 30 minutes for the temperature to level out again.

If you are concerned about the operation of the refrigerator you must use a high quality thermometer. Place the thermometer in to a jar of something that has been inside the fresh food section for more than three days. Pickle jar, juices and similar items.

For the freezer section place the thermometer between frozen packages to read the true freezer temperature.

Reading the air inside either section does not give a true reflection of the cooling in the unit.

I hope this helps you, if you need service here is a link to
