How can I remove melted plastic from the bottom of my oven?

I have a Kenmore electric range model 790. I melted a plastic cutting board in a self cleaning oven. We got most of it out but I'm scared to use the oven until it is totally clean. How can we do that?

I am sending you an answer from our database. Substitute the word plastic for aluminum in the answer and it is a good answer. Try heating and cooling the plastic and scraping with a plastic spoon or spatula.

The plastic that is left will smoke and smell every time you use your oven. The best way is to let it smoke and smell only once.

When you have removed all that is possible, open some windows or doors and turn the oven on clean. The plastic will burn up and it will smoke, but it won't hurt anything. There may be a stain where the melted plastic was, but it will go away gradually with use and cleaning.
