Can I lay my freezer down to move it?

I need to transport my upright freezer. Can I lay the freezer down on it's side in the back of my SUV to move it? I know on the old ones the oil would run out of the compressor and get in the lines and ruin the freezer. I don't think this applies to the newer ones. Is this true?

You can lay the freezer on its side to move it. When you get it set up in the new location let it sit for 12-24 hours so the oil can run back into the compressor before turning it on.
