Why is the red light blinking next to the icemaker shut off switch?

I have a Kenmore refrigerator model # 106.5362300 and the ice maker stopped making ice. The red light is blinking next to the ice maker off/on switch.

Basically the reason the red light is blinking is that the beam of light is being blocked somewhere between the sender and the receiver unit. It is normal for it to blink when the freezer door is opened. On the left side of the freezer liner there is a plastic flapper that springs out and blocks the beam when the freezer door is opened. Check to see if the ice bucket is sitting in its proper position. With the freezer door open push the flapper flush up against the liner and the blinking light should stop.

If you find nothing blocking the path of the infrared beam and the red light continues to blink I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose the failure.
