How do I weather-proof my deck?

On my weather exposed deck, I have to replace the rotted 4x6 floor joists. In the Pacific Northwest, wet Winters are the norm, I would like suggestions on weather proofing the new joists prior to laying the flooring. The deck is located on the south side of the house. The joists are supported by blocks on concrete piers.
