I have a Craftsman
Hydrostatic (automatic) mower that starts but won't move?

Craftsman Tractor model- 917.251561, 22.5 HP, 50 inch cut.
Engine runs OK. Drive Belt is OK but rear wheels will not move when forward lever is in motion.

Even though the belt looks okay it may not be driving the transaxle pulley properly if the belt tension is incorrect or one of the pulleys is damaged or binding.

This particular design is very compact and efficient but it does require the belt and all pulleys to be in good shape and adjustment since the belt goes from a horizontal to vertical pull between the engine and transaxle.

If the transaxle is getting full drive input, then there may be an issue with the shifting linkage that is preventing the gear from fully engaging or your brakes might be dragging or the transaxle might be low on fluid.
