How do I locate the source of a squeak in my Kenmore Elite HE3 washer?

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I have a Kennore Elite HE3 washer model number 110.44836300. It makes a high-pitched squeak when the tub begins to turn. The squeak only occurs when the tub begins to spin in the wash cycle, and then the squeak stops. It sometimes comes back during the faster spin cycle. I have recently replaced the belt which had worn out. The unit is about 5 years old. All thoughts would be appreciated.

The squeak could be coming from a bearing or a loose drive pulley on the back of the washer tub. Since you just replaced the belt, you should be able to unplug the washer and access the drive pulley on the back of the washer tub. Check the nut on the pulley to make sure that it is tight. Tighten it if necessary. If this does not help eliminate the squeak, then it could be coming from the bearing in the washer tub. If the squeak gets worse, you may need to eventually replace the rear tub and bearing and pulley in the washer. If the washer is working properly at this time, you may need to just monitor the washer and continue using it with the squeak.
