Why won't my garage door opener close the door instead of stopping and blinking the light?

I have the 1/2hp Craftsman chain drive garage door opener that I installed a new gear kit in. Everything seemed fine for a couple of days after the gear set was replaced then the door did not want to go down (like there was resistance -the motor would stop and light would blink). With repeated trigger of the system (remote or wall button) the motor will drive the sprocket clockwise for a few turns then stop and light will flash. If the limit switch drive is re-set to the other end (brown wire) manually and reattached, the drive will run fine (normally) back down to the other stop (yellow wire). I've taken every thing apart and the motor will run the same way with the worm gear assembly removed. Do you have any thoughts?

You did state if the door stops and reverses back open or not or the model number. The blinking light is indicating a failure code. Refer to your user's manual for the error code.

The symptom that you described indicates an issue with the safety door sensors or the RPM sensor. If you press and hold the wall control button in and the door goes all the way down would confirm a door sensor issue. Check and confirm that the led's are lit on both door sensors.

Resubmit your question with the model number and additional details if needed for further assistance.
