My Sears Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener only partially opens the door. Any suggestions?

The sensors have steady green lights showing and there is no clicking indicating interference with the sensor beams. The door opens one quarter of the way and stops.

I suspect the door might be binding, causing the garage door opener to stop. Close the door so it won't slam shut if there is something wrong with a spring. Pull the emergency release rope on the trolley and open and close the door several times to check for resistance.

If the door operates normally, adjust the up force stronger about 1/2 an inch and try to open the door. Don't adjust the up force any more than you have to. Make adjustments in small increments until the garage door will open.
