It is a 36" Kenmore electric cook top model 790.4273, 4274. A porcelain tea kettle boiled dry and a small spot fused to the glass cook top. When the kettle was removed after cooling, a small piece of the glass was crackled, and came off with the tea kettle. Is it still safe to use that burner? The chipped area does not appear to go all the way through, but I don't know if it will crack more if I use it.
I recommend replacing the glass top as soon as possible before it cracks completely through. It is better to be safe that sorry. The radiant burners will radiate enough heat by using the 3 other burners that could cause the chip to become a crack and then you could possible cause a short if any liquid was to spill on the top.
The cost of glass top alone is $218.35 which would not include the trip fee or labor.
