Shingle roofs typically last around 15 years. As the shingles get older, they dry out and become more brittle - if pieces are falling off your roof then it's a good indication that the roof is nearing the end of it's life and you should consider replacement very soon.

If only a few pieces have come off and the roof is younger and in good shape, individual shingles can be replaced
