Why does the fuse keep blowing in my Kenmore microwave?

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I have a Kenmore microwave model 72167601790. It has serial number 705KM04688. The 250 Volt fuse blew. I replaced it but it blew out again after 2 seconds when starting the microwave. Why is this fuse blowing?

A direct short inside the cabinet is likely causing this fuse to blow. I do not recommend that you continue to open the microwave and work on it yourself. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the unit is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal repair. For these reasons, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair the internal failure in your microwave that is blowing the fuse.
