How do I dismantle the roller parts 8, 9 and 10 on my Kenmore vacuum cleaner Powermate Jr. model 116.C85PBPK0V022?

I'm trying to take apart the roller head to lubricate it. It is no longer spinning. I can't seem to see how this is done. The parts are 8, 9 & 10 on the diagram.

the instructions say to remove one brush support and slide the support rod from the brush assembly. How do I detach one of the brush supports on the side? I have tried pulling it out with plyers but it does not budge. Is there a screw mechanism I am failing to notice?

The image below shows the disassembly instructions for this type of Powermate Jr. Make sure that the vacuum cleaner is unplugged. Once you remove the cover following these instructions, you should be able to lift the brush dowel up. There will be some tension on the dowel due to the belt still being attached. Once you pull it up, the tension should be released. You can pull it out of the belt and clean it using the additional instructions provided below (sorry about the multiple languages provided in the service instructions). After you clean the brush assembly, it should work properly.
