Why is my Kenmore sewing machine model 385.19233 displaying the E1 error?

My sewing machine quit while I was sewing and displayed the E1 error. It is a Kenmore sewing machine model 385.19233. I have tried turning it off and on numerous times and the error does not clear.

Well on mine the fuse was gone, so I replaced it, and it blew again twice. I think it might be the stepper motor that adjusts the position of the foot when you turn it on. Is it possible to test this at all, and get replacements?

The E1 error code indicates that a fuse is blown on the control board. The image below shows the fuse that corresponds to the E1 error code.

NOTE: Be sure to unplug the sewing machine before you access any internal parts.

You can order the replacement fuse from

Sears PartsDirect

website.

NOTE: Order the 3.15A fuse (part number 000182177 -- you MUST use the leading zero's on the part number to get the correct fuse) instead of the original fuse (2.5A).

This is a recent technical recommendation from the manufacturer that will help prevent the fuse from continuing to blow. (You may want to order an extra one.)
