What does the F06 error code indicate on a Kenmore Elite HE3 washer model 110?

My young daughter has a Kenmore Elite HE3 front load washer model 110. Recently she has been receiving an F06 error code which prevents her from finishing her wash. With two small boys, this is a serious problem. She set up an appointment with a Sears repairman last week. Since it wasn't giving him the error code when he was there, he said he couldn't do anything about it. He was just guessing that it must be one of the three computers. The repairman told her that she purchased the washer 3 years ago, so her warranty is up and that it would cost her more than the price of a new washer to repair. Isn't there something that the repairman could do to diagnose and repair her fairly new Kenmore washer rather than sink a ton of money in it or buy a new one? Thanks.

The F06 error code indicates a drive motor tachometer error. This error is virtually impossible to accurately diagnose if it is intermittent and not occurring when a technician is present. The most suspect components that would cause this failure code are the drive motor, the motor control unit (control board) or the wire harness. In some instances, this could be caused by severely overloading the washer so that it cannot spin properly. Make sure that the washer is not overloaded. Another problem that could cause the error code to be displayed intermittently would be a loose wire harness connection that is affected by vibration when the washer is spinning at high speed. I anticipate that the technician likely checked the wire harness connections between the drive motor, the motor control unit and the central control unit (main control board). Although in some instances this error code could be caused by a failed central control unit, this would be rare. I am not aware of the F06 code being caused by a problem with the user interface control board. This information may help you more clearly understand the failure in the washer.

Since you have concerns regarding the service that your daughter received, I recommend calling the service unit that dispatched the Sears technician. I am confident that they can address your service concerns.

If the washer gets to a point where the F06 is occurring constantly, the washer should be able to accurately diagnosed with proper technical checks.

If you need more information or help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of the HE3 washer.
