My wheels on my lawn tractor, model 917.272681, will not turn. I think the brakes are locked up. How to unlock?

It is a Craftsman lawn tractor model 917.272681. My lawn tractor starts. When I put it in forward or reverse it will not move more than a foot and fall dead.

Prop the left side of the tractor up with something solid, so it can't fall. Remove the right rear wheel. Look at the brake disc just in front of the axle housing of the transaxle. Get someone to depress and release the brake pedal.

You should see the brake arm moving the lever that pivots the pucks and causes them to contact the brake disc. Inspect the mechanical parts that engage and disengage the pucks. You should be able to see what is stuck keeping the brakes on.
