Why does my tractor go backwards in the forward gears and goes forward in reverse gear?

I have a Craftsman lawn tractor model 917.272950. Reverse is forward and others are reverse. How do I fix it? I was adjusting the brake and messed up the linkage.

Adjusting the brake or messing up the brake linkage would not have caused the tractor to go in reverse in the forward gears and go forwards while in reverse unless the motion belt is routed incorrectly. Check for proper routing of the drive belt. See image below.
