Can you help me adjust the engine governor linkage of a Sears lawn mower model 917.377563?

This Sears lawn mower, model number 917.377563, includes a Tecumseh engine, model number 143.996510. After opening the engine to replace the main gasket, I have been unable to reassemble the mower to get the engine to run right. I believe I may not have reassembled the governor linkage properly. Is there a diagram that shows the proper assembly of the governor linkage?

There is no diagram of how to position the governor linkage. Try moving the spring to different holes on the governor arm. If this doesn't help, move the position of the linkage on the throttle plate. It is a trial and error procedure.

Each engine is different and there is no correct or incorrect way to position the linkage.
