Why does my Kenmore range model 790.94001400 have an error code of F11 even though my elements are fine?

I turned on my oven and shortly after I hard a loud noise and saw some smoke. I had my elements checked and they are fine. My range time comes on but shortly afterward it displays an error code of F11 or R11. The first letter is hard to read since this happened.

The F11 indicates a shorted keypad on the electronic oven control board. I recommend that you unplug the range to completely disconnect electrical power for 3 minutes. Plug the range back in and see if the F11 returns. If it does, then the electronic control board will need to be replaced.

You may be able to replace this part yourself. You can order a new control board (part 316418206) from the

Sears PartsDirect

website.

To access the electronic control board,

unplug the range

to disconnect electrical power and remove the upper back panel. Move the wire connections from the old control board to the new control board one connection at a time. Remove the old control board and mount the new one. Test the operation of the new board.
