Core Issue

: Why are the sides of Kenmore upright freezer hot to the touch? Is this normal?

Resolution

: Many freezers use a "shell" condenser foamed into the walls (just under the outer skin) to dissipate the system heat. Since the condenser is inside the outer cabinet, it is normal for the walls to feel warm while the compressor is running. When the ambient temperature (room) is high, during hot humid weather, the walls can even get hot to the touch. Providing the freezer is cooling properly, there is nothing wrong. Make sure the door / lid is fully closed and gasket is sealing properly.
