Why does my Kenmore dryer model 417.69042991 squeak when it runs and why do clothes get caught between the drum and dryer panel?

I have a Kenmore dryer model 417.69042991 and sometimes it squeaks and the clothes get caught between drum and dryer and get scorched. I noticed I can lift up the front of the drum between 1/2" - 3/4". I was wondering if this could indicate a bad bearing.

The squeak sounds like a bad bearing but the clothes getting caught sounds like a bad front seal. Your problem can be caused by one or the other or a combination of both.

The first image below shows how to access and change the drum bearing. You might consider doing this first to stop the squeaking. You can also check the felt seals after you remove the front panel. Remember to unplug the dryer first before accessing any parts.

The first and second images below show how to access the bearing. The 3rd image may help with getting the belt back on.

The drum bearing is part number 131825900. There is a lower seal 5303283286 and an upper felt/glide 5303937139 and all can be obtained from the following link:

Sears PartsDirect

.

The bearing is only about $4 dollars and you might try it first to stop the squeal and see if the clothes stop getting caught. The seals cost more and unless they are obviously bad I'd do the bearing first and then the seals.

I hope this information helps you with this problem and if you need any additional help then submit another question with more details for further assistance.
