Several different problems could prevent the sewing machine from feeding in the forward direction. Check the presser foot to make sure that is has sufficient pressure so that the fabric can feed forward. Make sure that the clutch knob is pushed in.
If the above tips do not help, a technician will normally need to physically examine the machine to diagnose and repair the cause of this type of failure. I recommend that you take the machine in for service by a technician.
I wanted the zipper foot for the Kenmore Model 158.19412 because I was told it was gear driven not belt driven. It will be a whole lot cheaper & work better to return the pressure foot. I have 3 other sewing machines & a serger so not having a pressure foot for the Kenmore is not a big deal.
