How do you change and how often do you change the charcoal filter on a Kenmore model 721.81629 microwave?

The microwave is 2 years old and I read the manual but it is not specific about changing the charcoal filter. There is no time frame listed about how often to replace. The manual does talk about cleaning the grease filters but it makes no mention of cleaning the charcoal filter.

While the grease filter can be cleaned once a month the charcoal filter doesn't need as much attention.

There are no set guidelines for replacing the charcoal filter. Once a year is what is usually recommended but depending on use even that is not set in stone.

As long as the air flows through the charcoal filter it is okay.

Charcoal filters can not be cleaned like the grease filters they must be replaced.

While you can not use the microwave with the grease filters removed you can use the microwave with the charcoal filter removed.

The instructions to change the charcoal filter are in your owner's manual and in the image below.
