Why does my dishwasher smell like something is burning?

My Whirlpool dishwasher (Model GU2700XTSQ1) smells like something is burning. The odor is not present in the tub when you open the door, so I'm pretty sure it is not leftover residue from something on the heating element. I cannot locate the source of the smell and unfortunately since I have a cold I can't tell whether the smell is electrical or rubber/plastic. I kicked a breaker a few minutes ago.

With the breaker still off, you can use the steps in the illustration below to access the console and electronic control board to check for a loose or burnt wire.

If you find no problems there, I recommend that you shut off the water supply to the dishwasher and reverse the installation steps to pull the dishwasher out and check the wiring and components underneath the tub (with the breaker still shut off). Here is a link for your installation guide if you need it:

.

You may be able to find the source of the burning smell using these tips. If you cannot find the cause of this problem, you may need to have a service technician examine the dishwasher.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
