Strut life can vary dramatically—anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 miles—depending to some extent on the kind of driving you do. A daily commute with 20 miles each way on a rough gravel road will wear out struts faster than a longer commute on a smooth freeway. A strut that shows signs of leakage or rattles as you drive should be replaced. If the car bounces excessively after braking, check the struts for wear or leakage.
