Some manufacturers don’t call for spark plug replacement until 100,000 miles. In that length of time, however, a spark plug could become seized in a cylinder head, particularly an aluminum one, and become difficult to remove. If you do your own maintenance and tend to keep a car for a long time, replacing the plugs at 50,000-mile intervals with new platinum-electrode or other long-life plugs could save you some grief down the line. Coat the spark plug threads with antiseize compound (but don’t get any on the plug electrodes) and tighten them to the correct torque.
