Why does my Kenmore water softener model 625.388250 leak where the bypass installation valve meets the valve assembly?

I have replaced part #7170288 (o-ring) and it still leaks right at their connection. Any thoughts?

Since the connection still leaks after replacing the o-ring, it is likely that you have damage to the bypass body or the valve body. Make sure that the bypass body is properly inserted and installed in the valve body. Here is a link for the installation guide for your water softener:

Water Softener Installation Manual

. If it is installed properly, I recommend that you replace the bypass valve body (part 7129863). If the fitting still leaks after replacing this part, you will likely need to replace the valve body (part 7082053).
