Why won't the pilot stay lit on my water heater?

My 1 year old Whirlpool gas water heater pilot light is not staying lit. It's a model #BFG1F4034T3NOV.

For flame and pilot outage the 2 most common reasons are a stopped up air vent or arrester. You can check and clean the air vent but a technician will be required to clean the arrester which is located under the burner assembly. Listed below are the main reasons for frequent pilot outage:

Clogged air intake screen(s) or flame arrester

Insufficient combustion / ventilation air supply

Improper vent system design or operation

High ambient air temperature (115 F or more)

A technician will be required to make these types of checks.
