Are the 3 pieces of styrofoam in the top of my refrigerator supposed to be there and what function do they have?

Kenmore Model 795.6937 - On the top of the refrigerator there is a large plastic piece housing the light and vents and toward the rear of this piece there are openings on both sides and the rear with styrofoam in them. The rear piece touches the rear wall of the refrigerator. Should this styrofoam be in these 3 locations or should it be removed? Can you further explain what function this piece has, i.e., what these openings are for, etc.

The styrofoam is supposed to be there. Its called a dryer filter and it basically keeps the air a little dryer that blows through the system. If the air is too moist, it can cause bacteria.
