What might be causing the OL error code on my Whirlpool Cabrio washer?

Whirlpool Cabrio - Model# WTW6500WW

My washer stops half way through the wash cycle and gives me an OL message. It doesn'e seem to spin after each cycle. What might be the cause of this? I have to restart the machine in the rinse and drain cycle and then to the drain and spin cycle in order for the machine to complete the wash cycle.

I had a oL error code (overload code) on my Whirlpool Cabrio. The basket (drum) was not floating up to disengage from the shaft when it was supposed to. I was able to remove the agitator as shown here youtube.com/watch?v=D2mxOA-taoo with little effort. But when I tried to pull the basket up and off the shaft it wouldn't budge. I was able to free it by lifting the basket up with one hand while pounding on the end? of the shaft with a 3 foot long 4x4. I found that the shaft had rusted to the basket. I sanded up the shaft. Now it works without the oL code.

The OL error code indicates that the washer is overloaded. If the washer is not overloaded, this would indicate either a drag on the drive system or the control board is failing. Be sure nothing is on the floor under the washer that could be causing a problem. Raise the lid & manually spin the basket, it should spin freely. If not, you may have an item stuck between the spin basket and the washer tub. The image below shows how to remove the spin basket. If you

unplug

the washer and follow that procedure, you may find the cause of your problem.

I recommend scheduling for a technician to come out to diagnose and repair your washer.
