We have not checked compression for some time now. The reason we no longer check compression is most engines today have a compression release to ease starting. Most techs are now using a cylinder leak down tester. This tester pressurizes the cylinder and the tech and hear the leak if any. If you only have a compression tester, the pressure should be around 60 psi. Your reading will range depending on how fast you turn the engine over.
