Why won't the door on my trash compactor open properly?

I have a Kenmore trash compactor model 665.13612101. The door sticks. It does not appear to be a ram problem. The foot pedal will not release the door without some serious grasping and lifting up on the handle.

The normal cause of the door not opening on a trash compactor is that the ram is not fully extended. You indicated that the ram does not appear to be the problem. There is a procedure shown below that will normally help you manually extend the ram if necessary or verify that it is fully extended when the door won't open.

Shut off the breaker

to the compactor to disconnect electrical power before pulling it out and beginning this procedure. If the ram is not preventing the drawer from sticking shut then I recommend that you have a service technician physically examine the compactor to determine the cause of this problem.
