Check the inside of the washer drum for metal burrs. If you do not see any through visual examination, try covering your hand with an old ladies stocking (panty hose) and rub the entire inside of the drum. If you encounter a burr then it should snag the stocking. This burr could be catching and tearing garments in the washer. If you are able to find a smooth down a burr you may be fix this problem yourself.
Garments may get torn by a loose tub baffle or a problem with the rubber door boot at the front of the basket. Look for problems in these areas if you find no metal burr.
