How do I fix the electric starter motor for my Sears snow blower model 247.888530?

The starter motor makes a bad noise and will not turn over electrically, but will start by hand pull starting. The replacement electric motor (part # 37000) costs $209.

Most likely the noise you hear is the starter motor running. The starter gear is not running up and engaging the ring gear on the flywheel.

You can probably repair this yourself. You should remove the ground wire from the battery to prevent shorting anything. Remove the bolts that hold the starter to the engine.

Drop the starter down from the engine and spray the starter gear and the spiral shaft it turns on with WD40 and run the starter gear up and down the shaft several times.

Reinstall the starter and if the problem continues you should replace the starter motor.

If you require further assistance please resubmit your question with more details. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.
