Why does my Kenmore series 80 model 110.29852992 washer cut off before the rinse cycle begins and leave a tub full of water?

The washer remains full of water and stops before the rinse cycle begins. It is a Kenmore model 110.29852992 washer.

From the description the most likely cause of this problem is the lid switch.

On this particular washer if the lid switch is bad the washer will still fill and agitate but it won't be able to drain and spin. If it doesn't drain then it can't advance into rinse.

The 3949238 lid switch can be obtained from the following link:

Sears PartsDirect

.

If you have access to a volt/ohm meter and are comfortable using it then the switch can be checked for continuity/resistance.

The image below shows how to remove the cabinet and access the lid switch if you wish to do-it-yourself.

This particular washer has two end caps that must be removed to access the two screws holding the console down. See the 2nd image for this.

Remember to unplug the washer first.
