Why does my Dyson DC14 animal vacuum cleaner brush bar quit working when I go from carpet to bare floor and then back?

I have a Dyson DC14 Animal vacuum cleaner. The serial number is 175-US-B-10950. If I change the setting from carpet to bare floor and then back to carpet again the brush bar quits working. By re-setting the brush bar I can get it to work but this happens every time I change the floor settings. Can you possibly tell me what the problem might be?

The settings normally need to be changed when the machine is in the upright position. Here is a link for the owner's manual:

Dyson DC14 Owner's Manual

. A problem with build-up of hair or string on the brushbar or a blockage in the vacuum cleaner could cause this problem. Clean the brushbar as described in the owner's manual. Also, check for blockages as shown in the manual. Clean the filter if this component has not been recently cleaned. If you need more help, you can call Dyson directly at 1-866-693-9766.
