Why does my lawn mower start, and immediately shut off?

It ran good last year. I put in fresh gas, a new spark plug, cleaned the magneto and coil, and changed the oil. It STILL cuts off immediately! Am I missing something?

When the engine starts, then dies, it usually indicates the engine is starting and burning the fuel you put into the carburetor with the primer. The carburetor is probably stopped up and does not draw fuel when the engine starts.

I suggest replacing the carburetor on the mower.
