How do I replace the burner ignitor on my KitchenAid gas cooktop, model #KGCS166GSS1?

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I need to replace the ignitor on the cooktop. How is the cooktop taken apart? Will I have to disconnect the gas line and electrical and pull the cooktop out of the cabinet to open the cooktop and get to the burner assembly and ignitor?

Thanks for your help

You will need to separate the main top from the burner box. Please see the images below from the service manual explaining how to replace the igniter on your gas cooktop.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
