can an 18 volt battery be used in a 16.8 volt craftsman drill

I have an older craftsman hand drill, model # 973117430, that uses a 16.8 volt battery, model # 1311436. The battery no longer will charge up. I can special order a replacement battery, but can I use an 18 volt battery, that I can purchase at K-Mart, in this drill?

I do not believe that the 18 volt battery will work in that hand drill. I am showing that it will use the 16.8 volt battery only. The current part number for this battery through the

Sears PartsDirect

website is 9-11048. I recommend that you order and use the proper 16.8 volt battery in the hand drill.

NOTE: Instead of buying a new battery, you may consider buying a new drill. A new drill is not that much more expensive than buying a battery. Here is a Sears.com link for a 19.2v cordless Craftsman drill:
