I have a 2001 Mercedes SLK 320, and my spare tire has no lug nuts. The lug nuts on the tire do not fit the spare. What size lug nuts do I need?

My spare has no lug nut/bolts on it, and I hit a huge pothole on the highway and the rim is cracked on the wheel of the tire on the car. It will not hold any air, and I have to get the spare on it to move the car. I have had trouble finding lug nuts/bolts to fit the spare. When I tried to put the same bolts from the regular tire, they did not fit and were not long enough. I am not sure where to look for ones that will fit and hope that I can get them at a regular store and not have to go to a dealership to get what I need.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. On Mercedes different size bolts are used between the light alloy wheels and the steel wheels. The quickest way to do this is take one of the bolts into your local auto parts store and ask them for the correct length. You will probably only need bolts that are 10-20mm longer. Those new bolts can only be used with the spare or they will come in contact with the parking brake assembly.

Best of luck and take care, Mike
