If the washer stops filling when you push the knob in to stop the washer, then the likely cause of this problem is a failed water level pressure switch. An air leak in the air tube that runs from the bottom of the tub to the pressure switch could also cause this problem. Here is a link for a previous answer on a similar model of washer that describes troubleshooting for this type of failure:
Why does my Kenmore washer model 11028812790 keep filling and not stop to agitate?
. Your washer will be slightly different than the one described in the link for the previous answer. To release the console on your washer, push a putty knife or flat tip screwdriver under the end cap on each side of the console to release the clips that secure it to the top washer panel.
If the washer continues to fill after you shut it off, then you have a leaking water inlet fill valve that will need to be replaced.
