my kenmore 80 series washer fills but won't start the wash or any other cycle.

my 80 series washer (2004) model 110.25842400 has been working perfectly until today. i started it on the normal cycle, large load for the water capacity, added perhaps a few too many heavy items but nothing ridiculous, and it filled fine but would not move into the wash/agitate cycle. i removed the clothes and tried moving the dial to another part of the cycle but it will not do anything at all. the thing just sits there and won't do anything related to what the dial says it should do. please help.

ok i just read this very complicated procedure. so i got a small straight screw driver and gently pushed thru the hole where the lid switch is. lo n behold the washer started the cycle. so i took a piece of duct tape and wrapped it around the lid piece to make it just a bit longer so when i closed the lid the longer piece pushed down on the switch and the machine started! good grief if all lifes problems could be fixed with duct tape. may not solve all the problems listed here...but worth a try before pulling the whole darn thing apart. have a great day.

The following procedure will work for most Kenmore and Whirlpool top load washers:

Unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power.

Remove the two plastic end caps on each side of the console. NOTE: Some models do not have removable end caps.

Remove the screws on each side of the console that secure it to the top panel. NOTE: Some models do not have screws. If not, release the clips on each side using a putty knife.

Pull the console forward and hinge it up and back over the top of the back panel of the washer.

Release the clip on each side of the cabinet that secures it to the back panel (see image).

Pull the cabinet forward to access the lid switch wire harness. Unplug the wire harness.

Pull the cabinet off of the washer. You now have access to remove and replace the lid switch.

Replace the switch and reverse the procedure for reassembly.

If this procedure does not work for your particular model, resubmit your question with the model number of your washer.

Hello Fred. My 80 series Kenmore washer filled with water today and stopped. I've tried other cycles, all it will do is fill with water, no agitate, spin or drain. I have unplugged in hopes of resetting the machine. I think it is the lid switch, based on above comments. Could you please email me any other procedures I could take prior to replacing the lid switch? Also email info i need to access the lid switch and the correct part number for the lid switch. Thank you in advance for all your help. I just can't afford having someone come to my house to fix this. I really need to do it myself.

On this particular washer if it will fill but won't agitate, drain or spin then the most likely cause of the problem is an open lid switch.

If this washer has a bad lid switch then it will fill with water but it won't agitate, drain or spin.

From the description you give most likely this washer has a bad lid switch.

The lid switch is accessed by removing the washer cabinet.

I will send you an image with instructions on how to access the lid switch by removing the cabinet.

The imaging system for the site is not working so I will send the image via email.

Your particular washer has two end caps that must be removed to access the two screws holding the console down.

Remember to unplug the washer first.
