Why won't the burners on my water heater ignite even though the pilot light stays on?

The water heater is a year 2000 Bradford White model number MI403S6EN12.

The troubleshooting for this type of failure is shown in the image below. Here is a link for the owner's manual on this model:

Installation and Operating Instruction Manual

. Your exact model did not match up with the owner's manuals and service manuals on the Bradford White website (

BradfordWhite.com

). You can visit the website if the information shown below and in the link for your manual does not match your model of water heater.

This type of failure is normally diagnosed and repaired by a service technician. If the troubleshooting below and in the manual does not help you resolve this problem, I recommend that you have a plumber or service technician examine the water heater. Here is a link for the ServiceLive.com website that has service providers in most areas that can help you with this problem:

ServiceLive.com

.

Do not attempt to repair this problem with your gas water heater unless you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely complete the procedures shown.

Sounds like the main gas valve needs to be turned from PILOT to the ON position.
