I am replacing the rear u-joint on a 2003 ford ranger and it is not coming out. I need to know how to remove it properly to be able to install the new one.

You should be using a press of some sort to remove those ball joints. I usually use a ball joint press mounted in a vise. Make sure you have all of the snap ring dug out of the yokes before pressing. Also be careful not to bend the yokes closer together as trying to get the new u-joint in is going to be too tight. Usually you can just take the whole drive shaft into your local parts store where you purchased the u-joint and for a minimal fee they'll do it for you.

Hope this helped, Mike
